Ways to Promote Your Event with Social Media

Social media can be a powerful tool for publicity.  There isn’t a better way to ensure people show up to your event than to get the word out on social media.

But it’s not enough just to have a twitter and instragram account and post reminders – there are tips and tricks you can use to get the most out of your social media promotion.  Here are a few key tips:

Create an Event on Facebook

Don’t just link people to your company’s page on Facebook – give the event itself its own page and campaign.  That gives you two different methods of drawing people’s attention; people who click on your business’ page for any reason will learn about the event, and followers of the event can invite their friends and colleagues as well, creating a potential viral explosion through the networks of people who might find value in your content.

Facebook Ads

Facebook Ads give companies of any size the ability to do directly targeted social marketing on a scale that was impossible years ago.  For a small upfront investment, you can target your ad to specific demographics.  That’s important, because it’s not about the number of people who see your ad – it’s the number of people who see it who might be tempted into clicking on it.  By focusing your ad on one of Facebook’s many, many demographics – and picking a demographic that best fits your event – you can get a much higher clickthrough rate and better response than by normal advertising.

Multimedia Content

The best way to get people interested in your event is to show them what they’ll be experiencing.  Lacking the ability to shoot video of the future, your best bet is with highlights from previous events or similar things your company has done in the past.  Did you have an excellent speaker or a fun activity or a great celebration?  These are things you can highlight – it reminds people who have been before about the good time they had, and tells other people what they might be missing if they don’t show!  Use an attention-grabbing thumbnail to help get those clicks going.
