We’ve all been there – either the schedule slips, or someone drops out at the last minute, and we’re left to plan something with no time to spare. It’s tempting – and, at times, excusable – to just throw together a basic party and call it a day, but a short time frame doesn’t mean you can’t come up with a great theme for your last-minute event. Here are some categories for you to go to if you need a theme, and quick.
The time of year is a great place to start looking for theme ideas. A harvest celebration in the fall, an ice or snow themed party in winter and so forth. The convenient thing about this is that these celebrations all have pre-existing decorations you can easily pick up from stores, and plenty of thematically appropriate catering options to choose from, as well. There’s nothing overly original about a wintery celebration, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun and exciting regardless – and expert professionals like the ones here at WPI Events have plenty of experience setting those up.
If you’re inheriting an already booked venue, that can be a great place to get ideas for your theme. Last-minute ideas are all about seeing what you already have and taking inspiration from there, so the venue is a logical place to start looking. Does your venue have an industrial feel? An old-fashioned, classy estate feel? Is it artsy, modern, psychedelic? Using the room as a place for inspiration is a great choice.
A blast from the past is a time-tested event theme, as nostalgia is always a big seller. Thrift stores become a great place to find decorations and thematically appropriate pieces, your music playlist is essentially already pre-defined, and a lot of your attendees may have appropriate clothing still buried away in the back of a closet somewhere. And who doesn’t want to go back in time for a night?
